Bone Density

East River uses a state of the art dual photon x-ray system to perform bone densitometry of the spine and hip. This system utilizes extremely low radiation to assess the strength of the bones in your body. It will also compare your measurements to a reference population based on your age, weight, sex and ethnic background. This information will enable your physician to determine whether you are at risk for fractures due to osteoporosis.

Fortunately, there are medications, vitamins and dietary supplements available to stop and reverse bone loss if found early.

Examinations are comfortable, fast and safe. Patients typically spend only minutes reclining fully clothed on the table. There are no injections. The radiation exposure is 1/20th that received in a normal chest x-ray.

No Preparation Necessary

You should not have had a barium study three days prior to your bone density examination.
