Coronary Artery Calcification
Scoring was performed utilizing the GE Light Speed Plus
Cardiac CT. Images were obtained with prospective gating
at 2.5mm slice thickness and analyzed utilizing the
proprietary General Electric Software, SmartScore. Coronary
artery calcification is determined based on the volume/density
of calcified plaque and scored according to traditional
methods of Agaston and Johnston.

Conclusion:
Current data suggests that the amount of coronary
artery calcification is related to the severity of coronary
artery disease. The location of the calcium or its scored
value however does not necessarily correspond to the
site or degree of blockage within an individual vessel.

Prevention
and detection of coronary artery disease should
be discussed with one’s physician. If a person
is in either of the last two categories further evaluation
is recommended.
