Preparations for imaging examinations will vary depending on the examination. The purpose of the preparation is to increase the likelihood of a thorough examination and reduce the chance of artifacts simulating disease.

Although some of the preparations may not be easy to follow, please try your best. Years of experience has shown us that these preparations work well. If the prep is too extreme for you, please call the office and a modified preparation can be given.

Diabetic, Elderly, or Debilitated Patients should call for a modified preparation.

If you are taking Glucophage and are having a CT or Intravenous Pyelogram please notify the office at the time of your appointment. This medication will interact with the intravenous iodine injection.

If there is a possibility that you are pregnant and are having any exam, with the exception of an ultrasound, please notify the scheduler, the front desk and the technician.

If old films are available pertaining to the exam being performed, please bring them with you for comparison.

If you have a history of an allergy to iodinated contrast, asthma, or a strong allergic history, please notify the office when scheduling your exam. Premedication may be necessary depending on the clinical history. If indicated the radiologist or your referring doctor can call your pharmacy. When arriving at the office for your appointment, please notify the front desk and the technologist performing the examination if you have an allergic history or have been premedicated.

PET/CT

You should not eat or drink (except water) for at least 6 hours before your test and no caffeine, nicotine, or alcohol for at least 12 hours before.

Avoid strenuous exercise for at least one day prior to the PET/CT exam. Try to drink at least 32 ounces of water the day before the exam.

Please inform us of any medications you are taking. It would be a good idea to bring a list of your current medications. Some medications can interfere with the exam. If your particular mediation should not be taken on the day of your exam, we will let you know. If you've been advised not to take your medications on an empty stomach, eat nothing more than a few soda crackers within 6 hours of your exam.

If you are an insulin dependent diabetic, you may eat toast with a small amount of juice and take your insulin at least two hours before your exam.

Patients must have a written physician requisition which states their medical and surgical history and the reason for the PET/CT scan.

Please inform us if you are diabetic, pregnant or nursing.
