Virtual Colonoscopy Preparation

The preparation for virtual colonoscopy is of utmost importance in obtaining a diagnostic study. If the bowel is not prepared properly the test can be non-diagnostic and even lead to a false interpretation.

There are four parts to the preparation:

The first consists of a low fiber diet 2 days before the exam no fruits, vegetables or breads.

The second includes a diet of clear liquids throughout the day to wash the colon clean and remove any solid debris.

The third consists of a tagging agent (Tagitol) which is used in opacifying residual stool in the colon.

The fourth component of the preparation includes over the counter-cleansing agents (Fleet Prep I Kit) that help to eliminate fluid and waste from the bowel.
