American College of Cardiology Recommends Coronary CTA

The Journal of the American College of Cardiology recently published a report recommending Coronary CTA as a first line diagnostic study for patients without known Coronary Artery Disease with stable chest pain (Current Evidence and Recommendations for Coronary CTA First in Evaluation of Stable Coronary Artery Disease). The report recommends moving from myocardial perfusion evaluation with SPECT to detection of coronary atherosclerosis with Coronary CTA.

As one of the pioneers of this technology in NYC, East River Medical Imaging has been performing coronary CT angiograms for many years.  Our experience has enabled us to improve our techniques and reduce radiation dose.  We have always believed that Coronary CTA would become the test of choice for evaluating coronary arteries because of its non-invasive nature, especially in the setting of stable angina.  The science is now there to back up our experience….
