Musculoskeletal ultrasound can be used for diagnosis or treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and disease. Images of the musculoskeletal system are created by sending sound waves into the body and listening for their return. Ultrasound can be a very useful tool for evaluating the musculoskeletal system due to its high spatial resolution, dynamic capabilities (ultrasound can image moving structures) and lack of ionizing radiation.
Musculoskeletal ultrasound is very dependent on the skills of the ultrasound technician and radiologist. Fortunately, at East River Medical Imaging we have four fellowship trained radiologists who specialize in diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound and two dedicated musculoskeletal ultrasound technicians.
